Introduction

An "Open Appointment" is an unconfirmed appointment request. This request can be from a new or existing patient. Providers receive appointment requests but do not always take them.

Working through the open appointments list helps us to increase fulfillment, identify areas of need (for new providers), and return referrals when unable to fulfill.

We split open appointments into two categories: Blasting and Blasting Specific.

Blasting: this patient's appointment request is blasting to all applicable therapists in their area based on gender preference and medical credential requirements.

Blasting Specific: this patient is assigned to a specific provider, usually because they have already been seen by them. The VA prefers patients receive treatment from the same provider for the duration of their referral wherever possible.
